THOMAS ROY BURTON (1920 - 2006) The family of Tom Burton is saddened to announce his passing on Saturday, October 26, 2006 at the Grace Hospital. Tom has joined his wife Joyce (nee Omand) who predeceased him in 1997. He is survived by his daughter Shirley (Darrell Froom), granddaughter Andrea, sister Dena Noakes of Winnipeg and brother Homer (Joan) of Edmonds, Washington. Tom was born to Roy and Ena Burton in their sod house near Ste. Rose du Lac on June 21, 1920. In 1940, Tom enlisted in the RCAF as a Wireless Communicator and was posted to Gander, Newfoundland. After the war, Tom received business training and found work with the Income Tax Department (Revenue Canada) in Winnipeg. There he met and married his wife Joyce Omand in 1950. They made a home in West Kildonan, until daughter Shirley was born, when they chose Windsor Park to raise their family. Tom worked for Canada Post, retiring after 30 years service in 1984. He was an avid curler in the Post Office league and spent many pleasant hours on carpentry projects, gardening and taking care of his house. Tom loved reading and was a philanthropist who believed in helping others. His kind and agreeable nature won him many friends wherever he found himself on life's road. His family wishes to express their heart felt appreciation to the wonderful caregivers of Tower 6 and 3 East at Deer Lodge Centre, as well as to the excellent staff of 3 North at Grace Hospital. Donations in Tom's memory can be made to the Manitoba Lung Association. Interment will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. A celebration of Tom's life will follow at Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLV D. 982-7550
